When a classical guitar player reaches for an electric guitar there is usually a problem. The neck is too thin.
The width is nothing they are used to. At Haywire Custom Guitars we can add wide guitar necks to any guitar however if you have large hands we have some special necks just for you! You have a choice at Haywire Custom Shop of: 1-7/8″, 2″ or 2-1/8″ widths with 22 frets.
Our wide necks are for BIG guys and classical guitar players. You know who you are and so do we.
If your fingers are big, small neck guitars leave much to be desired with no room for movement. If you’re a big guy with a standard guitar neck, it’s not going to feel right. The standard width guitar neck will be too small for you. If you have a size 15 foot you need a size 15 shoe. Let us get you the right neck for your hand size. We are musicians working for musicians-let us work for you and get you the right equipment to be your best!
Start with the right equipment. Please don’t let your guitar neck be a roadblock to your success. Bigger guys, with bigger fingers, need bigger necks.

your job well. Please let me know how I can assist you in choosing a guitar that will suit you well.

Classical guitarists who prefer a wider neck on their electric guitars often do so for finger-style playing and to mimic the feel of a classical guitar’s neck. A wider neck, typically 1-7/8 inches or greater at the nut, provides more space between strings, making it easier to play complex fingerings and chords. While there isn’t a specific “classical electric guitar” category, Haywire Custom Guitars can do it for players needing this modification.
Why a wider neck?
Classical Guitarists Need Wide Nut Electric Guitars
-
Fingerstyle Technique:Classical guitarists often use fingerstyle techniques, which require precise finger placement and string separation. A wider neck provides the extra space needed for these techniques.
-
Familiar Feel:Many classical guitarists transition to electric guitar and prefer the wider neck to maintain the feel of their acoustic instrument.
-
Reduced String Clashing:A wider neck can reduce the likelihood of fingers accidentally muting adjacent strings, especially when playing chords or complex passages.
-
Custom Guitars:Many custom guitar builders specialize in creating instruments with specific neck dimensions, including wider necks for classical guitarists. Websites like Haywire Custom Guitars discuss this.
-
Neck Radius:In addition to the nut width, the neck radius (how curved the fretboard is) also impacts playability. A flatter radius, often found on wider necks, can be preferred by classical players.
-
String Spacing:While a wider neck provides more space, the actual string spacing at the bridge can also affect playability. Make sure to consider both neck width and string spacing when choosing a guitar.
