What you need to feel:

  • Neck profile: The neck is straight and it makes it easier to wrap your hand around it to fret notes and form chords.
  • Action: The height of the strings above the fret-board is very low. A smooth neck and well-placed frets.
  • String gauge: The gauge of the strings needs to be comfortable.
  • Scale length: The length of the scale is 25-½” is a standard to begin with.
  • Neck angle: The angle of the neck needs to be perfect on all 4 axis.
  • Weight: Light enough to be comfortable with great resonance and sustain.
  • Body shape: The single cut-away has a comfortable body shape and a well-balanced weight.
  • It feels “broken in” and comfortable right out of the box.
  • A guitar with a great tone will respond to the subtle nuances of the player’s technique, allowing expression of musical ideas with clarity and precision.

There is no “Best” electric guitar, there is a great feeling guitar

A great feeling guitar however is the best feeling guitar for YOU. One that encompasses your most desired feel, tone, weight, neck thickness and shape is the one you need. Look at all of those parameters and your perfect guitar will start to emerge from the fog of the many choices. You have the final say on what feels good for you.

Speak to someone with the ability to help you get what you need. Put it down in writing and it can be used not only as a blueprint for discussion but ultimately for the construction of your perfect instrument. Get what you need, not what’s “available” for sale in the music store. Find your options in terms of sound, feel, weight, looks, design and comfort and you’ll never want to be without it.
