I fixed this guitar from the Furch guitar distribution center in Nashville. A damaged guitar can be frustrating, but here’s a breakdown of options depending on the extent of the damage:

Assess the Damage:

  • Type of damage: Is it a crack, a broken headstock, electronic issues, or general wear and tear?
  • Severity of damage: Is it minor and cosmetic or major and affecting playability?

Repair Options:

  • Minor damage:
    • You can do simple fixes like restringing, cleaning, or minor cosmetic repairs. Haywire Custom Guitars in Conway, SC. will do the major repairs.
    • Action adjustments, fretwork, and minor crack repairs can be handled by Haywire as well.
  • Major damage:
    • Broken headstock, cracked neck, or major body damage should be repaired by a qualified luthier.
    • Consider the cost of repairs compared to the guitar’s value before proceeding.
    • Cost of repairs: Costs vary depending on the damage. Replacing a neck can range from $200 to $500, while refretting can cost $400 or more.

3. Replacement:

  • As a result, If the repair cost is too high or the guitar is beyond repair, consider replacing it.
  • Factor in the sentimental value if it’s an old guitar and decide if it’s worth repairing or replacing.

4. Alternatives:

  • Donation: If you have an old, damaged guitar, donate it to a school, charity, or music program that accepts instruments for repair or repurposing.
  • Recycling: We recycle parts of a guitar. We’ll take metal strings, for example, to a scrapyard the rest can be re-used.
  • Repurposing:  We can repurpose old guitars into creative art pieces.
