Guitarists with small or large hands are underserved because "standard" instruments (often featuring a 25.5" scale length and 1.687" nut width) force these players to fight the instrument's geometry instead of focusing entirely on their technique and musicality. I have played professionally for 50 years and heard all the complaints from players that guitars are too heavy to... At Haywire Custom Guitars We Prioritize Precision When Adding A Neck Remember: You can only perform a great guitar set-up IF the guitar neck is added and aligned properly. Precision is THE priority. Key Installation Steps: Prepare the Surface: If a neck already has holes, fill them with wooden dowels (like BBQ skewers) and glue, then sand smooth to create a fresh surface. Initial Clamping: Use a C-clamp to hold the neck, body, and neck plate together. Place thin wood pieces between the clamp jaws to protect the fret board, frets and finish. Set perfect string "Margins": Before drilling, install the 1st and 6th E strings. Move the neck slightly left or right until the space between the strings and the fret board edges is perfectly even all the way down.more.....

Your Guitar

Your guitar needs to be comfortable and light-weight enough to play for hours at a time in any situation without fatigue.  The sound has to be clear and tone-great. It has to be built to withstand the rigors of being on the road whether touring or playing in local venues. It has to feel good to you when you play it. The action and feel need to be consistent all the way down the neck so you won’t be forced to alter your playing technique as you travel around on the fret board.  A guitar players instrument needs to be in tune on every fret. We pay careful attention to the intonation settings.  It has to look good for you and represent your sense of style. The finish has to last for a long time to protect the wood from absorbing moisture from the atmosphere as well as sweat from direct contact with hard working hands.

A Wide Neck Guitar-Is It For You?   Do you need one?  24 years ago, at Haywire Custom Guitars we featured several changes that pleased many of our core customers  and one of those changes was “guitar neck shaving” for players with smaller hands. The move proved a big hit. Many players began to think that they can now get their favorite guitars where they want them.  New orders for neck shaves were one of the most visible signs of that. Players were getting what they needed and a very reasonable price. At $135 for a custom shave of any thickness, and matching refinish, the total shaving process is a bargain. Suffice it to say a 2 day turn-around time is the second best part.
