Professional Guitar Neck Shaving and Profile ReshapingA guitar neck should be chosen based entirely on what best fits your hands, not an arbitrary standard. If your favorite electric, acoustic, or bass guitar feels an impediment to your playing because the wood profile is too thick, our shop can trim down the back contour to your exact specifications. For $135.00 plus return shipping, the Haywire Custom Shop will meticulously re-profile your instrument’s neck to a thinner, more comfortable depth. After shaving the wood, we apply a smooth, premium clear finish to preserve the neck, seal out ambient moisture, and prevent wood warping.Comfort Dictates True ToneThere is an old luthier debate regarding the tonal qualities of a fat neck versus a thin neck. While a thicker neck adds slight acoustic mass, the overwhelming majority of your high-gain electric guitar tone relies on your direct playing technique, amplifier, pickup configuration, and speaker enclosures. If a neck contour causes hand cramping or physical fatigue during a live set, it directly limits your playing ability. Shaving a guitar neck down to a slim “C” shape or custom profile allows your fingers to move effortlessly, maximizing your comfort and precision where it matters most. How to Get Your Neck Cloned or Custom-ShapedIf you own an instrument that feels perfect, we can clone its dimensions exactly using precision digital calipers. Simply take measurements at the center of the 1st, 3rd, 5th, 7th, 9th, and 12th frets, send us those metrics, and our custom shop will replicate that identical feel on your thick neck.To get started, you can ship just the unbolted neck or send the complete guitar to our Conway, SC facility for a full setup. We work on incoming custom profiling jobs immediately upon arrival, maintaining a turnaround time of 2 days or less.Ship Your Instruments To:
