Step-by-Step: Setting Up Your Guitar: Intonation Proper intonation is a process of balancing the length of each string so the guitar plays accurately across the fingerboard. The 12th fret provides the reference point because it is the octave of the open string. Start with fresh strings. Strings develop uneven wear as they are played, and worn strings can produce misleading intonation readings. For an accurate setup, begin with a properly installed, fresh set of strings. Tune the open string precisely. Bring the string to exact pitch using a reliable electronic tuner. This establishes the reference point for the intonation check. Check the 12th-fret note. Play the string at the 12th fret using normal playing pressure. Excessive finger pressure can raise the pitch and give you a false reading. Compare the 12th-fret pitch to the open string. 12th-fret note is sharp: The string is effectively too short. Move the saddle backward, away from the neck, to increase the string length. 12th-fret note is flat: The string is effectively too long. Move the saddle forward, toward the neck, to decrease the string length. Make small adjustments. Intonation should be adjusted gradually. After each saddle adjustment, re-tune the open string before checking the 12th fret again. Moving the saddle changes the string's pitch, so skipping the re-tuning step can lead to an inaccurate adjustment. Repeat the process. Continue the tune–check–adjust cycle until the open string and its 12th-fret octave are accurately matched. Repeat for each string. One Guitar Pickup Not Working

When guitar pickups suddenly stop working, It's a very easy fix for a guitar repair shop. As well a hobbyist who can solder, a guitar tech or a handy  neighbor with a solder gun can do it too. First: 1) Identify the wire not connected. This can be done by removing the two outer screws from the control plate and carefully turning it over 180 degrees and sitting it back down in the hole (see example photo below). Now you can view all of the wiring on the control plate. 2) Look for one errant wire "not connected" to either the switch or the back of a volume or tone control pot (a usual ground wire location) with some solder still on the end. 3) Once identified look for a possible connection where it was once soldered. You can most likely see where it was joined in the circuit by checking to see and clump of solder without a wire connected to it. That's usually a clue as to where it broke away from. We just need to get them back together. 4) Simply solder the wire back and you should have it fixed.

A Neck Pocket Finish Crack barely visible. Worry time?? A small surface crack barely visible to the eye in a guitar where the body joins the neck on either side can be worrisome at first glance. This is a very common occurrence for Stratocasters and other bolt-on neck guitars. It’s what we call a 'neck pocket finish crack.' Because the wood of the neck and body is more pliable than the thick paint, tiny shifts in temperature or humidity cause the finish to develop these hairline stress fractures. Since it isn't following the wood grain, it's purely cosmetic and won't affect the guitar's stability, playability, or tone. Sometimes they can appear around the input jack area as well.

Sometimes sending a guitar back For a small "Tweak" is not always practical or necessary. Many times when I ship a guitar from the humid deep South to a dry climate the neck sometimes will "hump" up a bit. This will cause what can be described as guitar neck misalignment and sometimes a "string buzz". Very small, almost imperceptible tweaks will result in a surprising results for this type of guitar neck misalignment issue. It is very easy to fix!

Superficial surface finish cracks are prone to all guitars. Importantly, more in used guitars. Strats tend to crack the paint or finish surface in that exact same spot where the neck meets the body. Used guitars are especially more prone as they have been handled more. If you bought a used guitars that was not listed as Mint, NEW or Perfect then it's used. Ordinary wear and tear and surface cracks are to be expected sometimes, so clearly a surface crack in the body where the neck meets the pocket is a non-issue. Equally important, if a used guitar plays well and sounds good and is in excellent playing condition why worry? Remember-most used guitars aren't beauty pageant entries, just good playing guitars. You have to ask yourself? Did I buy the guitar to play it or look at it? When you said nothing about how well it plays but just how it looks it's not the guitar with a problem.

From: WMBF News, in their investigation they discovered musician Rich Johnson, a musician from Long Island, makes as little as $75-$100 per night playing music part-time at a local restaurant. However, the City of Myrtle Beach in answer to the " musical discrimination" issue, insists under penalty of law that he spend $100 on a “business license” and if not face up to $500 in fines or a month imprisonment for each unlicensed performance. Does this make sense? What other jobs in Myrtle Beach require a license to work? Why are musicians treated like "second class" citizens and made to pay for licenses to work?
